Atlético de Madrid Secures Spot in 2025 Club World Cup: 23 Teams Qualified, 9 Spots Remain

Atlético de Madrid is the last of the 23 teams classified for the next edition of the Club World Cup which will be played in the summer of 2025, together with the Korean team Ulsan, which did so this Wednesday morning. Only nine teams remain to be defined.

There are already 23 classified teams: 13 champions and 10 by ranking. The champions are Al Ahly (Egypt), Palmeiras (Brazil), Flamengo (Brazil), Manchester City (England), Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Real Madrid (Spain), Wydad (Morocco), Chelsea (England), Fluminense (Brazil), Monterrey (Mexico), Urawa Reds (Japan), León (Mexico) and Seattle Sounders (USA). The ten classified by ranking are the Bayern (Germany), PSG (France), Ulsan (Korea), Inter (Italy), Dortmund (Germany), Porto (Portugal), Atlético (Spain), Benfica (Portugal), Juventus (Italy) and Auckland (New Zealand) .

Austrian Salzburg would achieve the remaining place among the 12 European clubs unless Arsenal win this edition of the Champions League.

The prizes and fixed prices for the next Club World Cup are not completely defined, since FIFA must sell the product in the coming months, but It is estimated that the Spanish teams could be between 25 and 70 million to participate depending on the income from the competition and whether they are capable of winning the title.

The scoring system is as follows: two points for a victory, one for a draw and one point for qualifying for the next round.

Which teams have already qualified?

Africa (2 of 4 clubs):Al Ahly (Egypt) for being champion of the CAF Champions League 20-21 and 22-23; Wydad (Morocco), champion 21-22. Two teams are missing, the champion of the 23-24 and one by ranking, which right now is Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa (98 points) followed by Esperance from Tunisia (90).

Asia (3 of 4 clubs): Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia), AFC Champions League champion in 2021, and Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan), champion in 2022 and one per ranking than Ulsan (South Korea). One is missing: whoever wins the title this year (Al-Ain or Yokohama Marinos).

Europe (11 of 12 clubs): Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester City as Champions of the Champions League in 20-21, 21-22 and 22-23. Through the points system: Bayern, PSG, Inter, Porto, Benfica, Juventus, Dortmund and Atlético. One missing by ranking (it would be Salzburg if they eliminate Arsenal).

North America, Central America and the Caribbean (3 of 4 clubs): Winners of the Concacaf Champions Cup were Monterrey (Mexico) in 2021, Seattle Sounders (USA) in 2022 and Club León (Mexico) in 2023. The 2024 champion is missing (Pachuca, Monterrey -already qualified-, America or Columbus).

Oceania (1 of 1): Auckland City (New Zealand).

South America (3 of 6 clubs): CONMEBOL Libertadores winners: Palmeiras (Brazil) in 2021, Flamengo (Brazil) in 2022, Fluminense (Brazil) in 2023 and this year’s champion. Using the points system, two clubs would be missing: River Plate (73 points), Boca Juniors (71) and Olimpia de Paraguay (57) are playing for it.

Host country (0 of 1): It will be a team from the United States that completes the list of 32. Messi’s Inter Miami may be the one chosen.

Where and when is the 2025 Club World Cup played?

The FIFA Club World Cup will be held from June 15 to July 13, 2025. when 32 of the main teams on the planet meet in the United States to compete in this new tournament format, which will bring together the most successful club teams from each of the six international confederations: AFC, CAF, Concacaf, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA .

Competition format
