ASAK Athletics Dominate in Second Bundesliga West Opener, Prepares for Upper Austria Derby vs Wels

ATTNANG-PUCHHEIM. In the newly formed second Bundesliga West, the reunion with the Kufstein Vikings at the start of the season was extremely successful. The ASAK Athletics retained the upper hand in both games with 15:5 and 10:0 and can now prepare in peace for the Upper Austria derby against Wels at the end of April.

Sebastian Holzer laid the foundation for a brilliant first inning in the opening game as a pitcher and his defense. After the guests from Kufstein were unable to score, the ASAK Athletics went to bat. With four hits and numerous walks, the Upper Austrians scored a total of eight runs and were also able to add more in the second and third periods of the game to increase the score to 10-0. Only in the fourth inning did Attnang not quite perform. The new pitcher Martin Libiseller didn’t quite succeed in throwing and it wasn’t until five points later and after a change of pitcher to David Taxacher that the hosts’ defense stabilized again. Awakened by the change in the game, the ASAK Athletics followed up in the fifth inning and scored five runs for an early decision and a 15:5 victory.

Dominant performance

Stephan Sappl started as a pitcher for the Tyrolean guests and knew how to convince with effective pitches. In contrast to the first game of the series, this time there was no flying start in the first inning. In the second inning, the ASAK Athletics offense had its first taste of altitude, but was only able to score one run from a promising position. Nick Dawson for Attnang and a flawless defense had the advantage on your side with short periods of play on defense. With two hits from Dawson and Taxacher as well as two errors in the Kufstein defense, the home team increased their lead and increased their lead to 4-0. They didn’t let up in the fourth inning either and with the two Attnang runners Holzinger and Holzer on base, it was once again David Taxacher with a triple who made it 6-0. Parker Burns, Martin Gruber and Peter Neuhuber also followed up with hits against Stefan Graf, who had since been substituted, as Kufstein pitcher and ensured a 10-0 lead. Attnang’s manager David Burns brought in a new pitcher, Parker Burns, for the fifth inning. Four Vikings batters later, Burns got the third strikeout of the inning and ended game two early, 10-0 for his team.

The ASAK Athletics are celebrating a double victory at the start of the season, which was certainly not to be expected. With Felix Wilhelm and Florian Wilhelm, Attnang had to provide two designated regular players, but the pitching and defense were already extremely focused. The defense showed a flawless performance over two games and the five pitchers only gave up four hits. Now the focus for ASAK Athletics is on preparing for the hot Upper Austria derby against Wels. On April 28th, the Athletics will meet the Wels Centurions away and of course want to defend their new lead in the table.
