Of the councilors, only Rainer Adrion has worked in professional football, including as a coach for several professional clubs and the German U21.
When asked, neither the VfB media department nor patrons themselves would be able to confirm the matter with Veh. The work in the committee is handled in strict confidence and no information is given on topics discussed there before they are officially announced. Apparently the idea of an increase is far from being ready and neither is Veh, who has a special connection to Stuttgart.
Veh was coach at the last championship
The 63-year-old was ultimately the coach of the legendary 2007 championship team with Timo Hildebrand, Thomas Hitzlsperger, Sami Khedira and Mario Gomez. In this respect, Veh’s appointment would certainly make sense, especially since he also has a relationship with the current CEO Alexander Wehrle that goes beyond VfB. Wehrle served as board officer in Stuttgart in the 2007 championship year. Later, from 2013, he was managing director at 1.FC Köln until his return to Swabia in 2022, where he worked together with Veh, who was sports director at the Rhinelanders from December 2017 to November 2019. Incidentally, he was followed there by Horst Heldt, sports director at Veh’s VfB masterpiece in 2007 and, according to reports, a few months ago a candidate in Stuttgart for the role of sports director, which is still to be filled by the supervisory board.
Several candidates have been traded in recent months. In addition to Heldt, the former sporting director of the DFB, Joti Chatzialexou, who Adrion is said to have favored. The name Jochen Sauer, campus manager at FC Bayern, also stuck. Most recently, the incumbent sports director, Fabian Wohlgemuth, made up ground. However, the committee was primarily concerned with itself due to the internal power struggle at VfB.
