Argentina Dominates Chile 3-0 in Billie Jean King Cup, Advances to Playoffs for World Group

The Argentine team beat Chile 3-0 in Bogotá for the Billie Jean King Cup and secured its place in the November playoffs to try to get into the World Group against an opponent it will meet at the end of this month.

The team led by Mercedes Paz did not give the trans-Andean women a chance, whom they beat in two singles and the doubles. Julia Riera put Fernanda Labraña first with a 7-5 and 6-2, and then Lourdes Carlé, recently winner of her first WTA title in La Bisbal D´Empordá, settled the dispute with a 6-2, 6-7 ( 1) and 6-3 to Daniela Seguel.

The icing on the cake was provided by Martina Capurro Taborda and Julieta Estable, 6-2, 6-4 winners of the duo made up of Geraldine González and Antonia Vergara, to seal their place in the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year thanks to previous victories by 2 -1 over Peru, 3-0 against Ecuador and 3-0 against Venezuela. Likewise, the series against Colombia this Saturday still remains to complete the phase.

How the path continues in search of the World Group

Argentina will attempt promotion in the week of November 11 against a rival that it will meet at the end of April, along with seven other teams from other areas (another from America, two from Asia and Oceania and four from Europe and Africa) and another eight losing teams from the World Group qualifying phase in dispute this week. The match will be the best of five games.
