Antonsen roars forward
It was a happy and relieved national coach, DR captured on Sunday evening just an hour after Anders Antonsen had the gold medal hung around his neck.
It is the 26-year-old badminton player’s third individual tournament victory in 2024, and it has impressed Kenneth Jonassen.
– This medal shows that Anders is in a good place. He is healthy and fit, and his confidence is fine.
– His physique has developed really nicely, and of course he has become more and more mature. He is close to being really complete, and that is also needed when we look ahead to the bigger tasks, when the very best are in top form, says Jonassen.
For the Danish national coach, the Olympics is the overriding goal, and a lot must go wrong if Anders Antonsen and Viktor Axelsen are not to represent Denmark in the men’s singles category.
But where Antonsen has come flying into the Olympic year, 2024 has looked somewhat different for the defending Olympic gold medalist Viktor Axelsen.
