Angelo Preciado’s Discipline Issues: A Setback for Sparta Prague

Angelo Preciado, Sparta’s reinforcement from the winter break, soon showed his qualities at Letné, at least very above-standard for the domestic competition. One of the highlights came with a successful double match against Galatasaray, when the Turkish media began to speculate about the interest of the Turkish club.

But as they say, sometimes you’re up, sometimes you’re down.

The Ecuadorian representative, who was not missing at the Mundial in Qatar, is currently so-called down. Definitely not because of his football performances, the reason is his lack of discipline.

Already at the beginning of March, he was on the mend when, at the end of the Letná derby, he swung at the slavist Bořil with his kick, and the red card was issued.

The famous name on Sparta’s roster was thus absent in the next three league matches: against Plzeň, Hradec and Budějovice.

His break ended at the beginning of April. In the semi-final match against Opava, he gave a very good performance, which, of course, was expected due to the quality of the second league opponent.

Whoever said the speedster had learned from Latin America was wrong. On Sunday, the Spartans suffered a blow at Letná when Kairinen scored an own goal. Prague’s Mlada Boleslav pulled ahead at halftime, but Preciada’s kick came right at the end of the second half.

He elbowed a Boleslav player while sitting and received another red card. Sparta did not manage the game in ten, despite the improved performance, and just before the end of the regular season, their path to the title was complicated.

Slavia is now first and has everything in its hands.

The disciplinarian handed down the punishment for Preciado on Thursday afternoon. The footballer has a four-match ban.

The future of Preciado?

The question arises whether the match with Mlada Boleslaví was the last for him in the red jersey. The answer is not yet in sight.

At least we can lean on the facts.

Preciado will be missing in the small Prague derby against Bohemka, at home with Baník and also in Olomouc, where the Spartan fans are planning a spring trip. He will also rest in the first round of the extension, when neither the opponent nor the venue has yet been decided.

Purely theoretically, he could help Sparta in four superstructure duels, including the derby. But? Although Sparta has limited options for this position: Wiesner or Mejdr. Zelený can also play through the leg, but the Ecuadorian fighter cannot be relied upon in tense moments.

We will find out in a few weeks at the earliest how the club and coach Priske will handle the situation with Preciad internally.
