Alpine skiing. Indiscretions and news for the World Cup calendar

The schedule for the next World Cup is currently being constructed. We present to you the first indiscretions. Val d’Isère and Courchevel will be the two French stages.

The Alpine Ski World Cup calendar is still causing so much discussion. Before the next season is made official, during the FIS Congress in Reykjavik on June 5, the puzzle is starting to take shape behind the scenes. The spring technical meetings in Portoroz (Slovenia), from May 5 to 9, will also be an important step for developing the schedule. According to a working document (draft), which we were able to consult, there will be many new features.

Sölden puis Levi et Gurgl

Unsurprisingly, winter will begin on the Rettenbach glacier in Sölden for the inaugural giants (men and women), on October 26 and 27. After finally giving up on the Zermatt-Cervinia speed stageas announced this weekend, Levi will make his return to the men’s calendar and the big mixed weekend dedicated to slalom (November 16 and 17), noting that most teams trained in Scandinavia at that time. Same program the following week at Gurglewho arrived on the program this season.

The return of men to Levi

Men and Ladies at Beaver Creek

Then head towards North America. The men will return to their big week of Beaver Creek (December 6 to 8) with downhill, super-G and giant on the Birds of Prey. The ladies will continue Trembling in Canada (two giants, December 7 and 8), like this season, and will land at Beaver Creek in Colorado (downhill and super-G, December 14 and 15).

Val d’Isère faithful to the post

Valley of Isere will once again mark the return to Europe of the men’s circuit with the usual technical weekend on the Face de Bellevarde (December 14 and 15). For men, it’s a great classic: Val Gardena (super-G and downhill), Alta Badia (with a giant and a slalom), Bormio (downhill and super-G) at the end of December and the slalom of Madonna di Campiglio to start the year (January 8).

The great classics of January

Then it’s time for the great classics of January, pillars of the calendar: Adelboden (11-12, giant and slalom), Wengen (17-19, super-G, downhill and slalom), Kitzbühel (24-26, super-G, downhill, slalom) and Schladming (28-29, giant and night slalom).

Garmisch before the Worlds

Despite the lack of snow for its two super-Gs this season (with the first victory of Nils Allègre), Garmischa historic spot in Germany, is due to host a descent (February 2), the last stopover before the Saalbach Worlds (February 4 to 16), where the arrival of the new team combined and the maintenance of the team parallel are announced.

A ladies slalom in Courchevel at the end of January

On the ladies’ side, Saint-Moritz will mark the return to Europe with two super-Gs (December 21 and 22). The end of year meeting at Semmering in Austria (December 28 and 29) is still to be confirmed. In January, women should continue Kranjska Gora, Sankt Anton, Flachau, Cortina, Kronplatzet Garmisch.

Then return to Courchevel. Usually held in December, the Savoyard meeting would be scheduled for January 30 with a nighttime slalom, the last race before the Saalbach Worlds (the weekend of February 1 and 2 would be off).

Men in Crans-Montana

For the end of the season, the ladies would return Sestrière (February 22 and 23, giant and slalom) while the men would be in speed mode at Crans-Montana (January 22 and 23, downhill and super-G), with a view to the 2027 Worlds. Kranjska Gora is still relevant for the men, but earlier, with a giant and a slalom on the Podkoren (March 1 and 2).

Scandinavia to finish

Scandinavia will then be in the spotlight: the ladies will return to Kvitfjell (February 28 – March, downhills and super-G) and at Are (March 8 and 9, technical); the men will settle in Norway, Kivtfjell for speed (March 8-9) and Hafjell (March 15-16) for technique.

The finals at Sun Valley

Before the finals scheduled for Sun Valley in the United States (March 21 to 27), there would still be one stage to draw, that of women’s sprint on March 15 and 16. According to our information, Val d’Isère was consulted but the meeting seems complicated to organize on these dates.

Some numbers

For men, the future calendar provides for 38 races in 19 stations with 17 speed events and 21 technical events.

For the ladies, the future calendar provides for 37 races in 20 stations, with 17 speed events and 20 technical events.

If the structure is well advanced, there are still weeks of negotiations and changes can still take place. And as with every puzzle, as soon as you touch a piece…
