HERMOSILLO.- Alejandra Valencia from Sonora finished her participation in the Pan American Archery Championship with three silver medals, after falling this Sunday in the finals of the Individual, Women’s Team and Mixed Team (recurve bow) modalities.

On the last day of the tournament held in Medellín, Colombia, Valencia Trujillo faced Casey Kaufhold individually, the American who ended up winning with a tiebreaker (9-8), to take the duel with a score of 6- 5.

The first set was tied 26-26, with each goalkeeper taking one point, but Kaufhold won the second and third (30-28 and 28-26) and took a 5-1 lead. However, Alejandra pulled out all the stops to win the fourth and fifth (29-24 and 29-28) sets, tying the match spectacularly and forcing the additional shot.

In the Women’s Team, the Sonoran and the Coahuila natives Ana Paula Vázquez and Ángela Ruiz fell 5-4 in the final, also with tiebreaker arrows (28-24), against the United States shortlist, which included Kaufhold, Catalina Gnoriega and Jennifer Mucino -Fernandez.

In the Mixed Team, Alejandra Valencia and Matías Grande faced Brazil in the final, a team that made up the duo of Ana Luiza Sliachticas and Marcus D’ Almeida and which won the challenge 5-4, also in tiebreaker arrows (20-17) .

In addition to the three runners-up finishes she won, on the first day of action the woman from Hermosillo set a new record for the Pan American Archery Championship, after adding 668 points in the women’s recurve eliminatory round, surpassing the 662 set by Casey Kaufhold in 2022.

Within the framework of this event, the Sonoran Olympic medalist received recognition on Saturday as the best archer on the continent in 2023 by the World Archery Americas, due to her great year on the international level.

Likewise, Sonoran coach Miguel Ángel Flores was also decorated by the body that governs archery throughout the continent, due to his great work in 2023 as leader of the Mexican women’s recurve team.
