Alcaraz, out in Barcelona | The Basque Journal

Carlos Alcaraz will not force himself to be at the Conde de Godó next week. The two-time winner of the tournament has decided not to participate this year, as he has not improved from the discomfort he suffers in his right forearm, and he will not be able to defend last year’s title.

Alcaraz already dropped out of the Monte Carlo Masters 1,000 this week due to an injury to the pronator teres muscle in his right arm, despite trying until the last minute to play in the Principality, a tournament in which he has never won a match and which, In fact, it remains on his resume as the only Masters 1,000 in which he has not won a match.

The Spaniard’s intention was to return to Murcia, rest there for a couple of days and resume training at Juan Carlos Ferrero’s academy, to travel this weekend to Barcelona and compete in a tournament that is a fetish for him with ten wins in his last ten games.

As explained by the tournament organization, Alcaraz has not had “good feelings” in his right arm during training this Sunday. “Despite having tried until the last moment, he will not be in the Conde de Godó.”

Alcaraz, who is still in Murcia, will travel to Barcelona to personally communicate his resignation.

The absence in Barcelona takes away the 500 points he defended from last year and makes him lose chances in the fight to be number two again before Roland Garros. In fact, this negative result practically makes it impossible for him to overtake Jannik Sinner in second place and, therefore, to avoid a confrontation before the final with Novak Djokovic in Paris.

When Barcelona’s points are deducted, Alcaraz will be 605 points behind Sinner and 1890 behind Djokovic. In the two remaining tournaments prior to the second Grand Slam of the season, Alcaraz will not be able to add anything in Madrid, since he won the title last year, but he will be able to add anything in Rome, where last year he lost in his debut.

The one who does have a release date in Barcelona is Rafael Nadal, who has been training at the club for several days and who will make his debut this Tuesday against the Italian Flavio Cobolli.
