The English daily “Daily Mail” wrote on Thursday about “A new breed of football hooligans threatening Euro 2024.” The article cited, among others: the case of a Newcastle United fan who was attacked in Milan before a Champions League match.

The English newspaper further said that “hooliganism was once known as the ‘English disease,’ but the cancer of organized violence around football is spreading across Europe.” Here, the Daily Mail wrote about the most radical fan groups called “ultras”, who are “from Italy to Poland and from Greece to Serbia”.

The English newspaper described Polish fans using the example of Legia Warszawa fans

The Daily Mail further writes that fans of visiting teams are the target of attacks in the cities and countries hosting matches and events. It was assessed that the security services also saw the visiting fans as a threat, not as people who might be in danger.

It also describes which countries the most radical fan groups come from. And this is where Poland comes in. “Ultras from Poland are currently considered among the most brutal in the world,” we read in the text. At this point, the newspaper recalled the events of November last year when Legia Warszawa fans clashed with the English police in Birmingham before the match against Aston Villa in the Europa Conference League.

– It was one of the biggest riots we have ever seen – this is what Damian Barratt, deputy chief constable of West Midlands Police, said about the events, quoted by the Daily Mail.

However, “Daily Mail” did not describe only Polish fans. The text draws attention to aggressive groups of fans from Italy, Greece, France, the Netherlands and Turkey.
