Alain Prost: Verstappen’s World Titles Would Hold More Value in Close Battles

According to Alain Prost, Verstappen’s world titles would be worth more if he won them in close battles against other teams’ representatives.

Max Verstappen has three titles to his credit, with the fact that this year he will probably reach the fourth with a great advantage.

Apart from the first primacy, which the Dutchman won in 2021 in a great battle against Lewis Hamilton, the Red Bull pilot did not have to fight too hard for his titles, as he enjoys a great advantage from 2022.

According to four-time champion from 1985, 1986, 1989 and 1993 Alain Prost, this diminishes the Dutch racer’s achievements a bit.

“Max is one of the best drivers in Formula 1 today, if not the best, we have to accept that,” Prost told Sports Illustrated.

“However, the triumph is more valuable to whoever wins a battle involving two or three teams,” shared the opinion of the Frenchman, who experienced countless duels with Ayrton Senna in the early 1980s and early 1990s.

Prost also thinks that Red Bull’s competitors should bet on a clear team number one, as is the case with the Austrian team.

“Mercedes and Ferrari would have a better chance if, like Red Bull, they found a real first driver and focused more on him. It’s a shame they don’t have something like that at the moment. Hopefully it will be different next year, then there could be another big battle,” added the 51 Grand Prix winner.
