Football Queensland and Brisbane Roar FC are continuing to chart a new course for the growth and expansion of the game across Queensland, today announcing the launch of the ‘Football Queensland and Roar Football in the Community’ program and reinforcing the collaborative relationship forged by Queensland’s leading football organisations.
Today’s announcement is an Australian football first, a collaboration of Football Queensland and Brisbane Roar FC demonstrating a powerful alignment between a governing body and the professional game; together, determining best practice and the most effective and strategic way to support the ongoing growth and development of football as the state’s largest club-based participation sport.
The FQ and Roar Football in the Community program will bring football to boys and girls across the state through the delivery of grassroots football community programs including holiday clinics, before and after school sessions, and community engagement opportunities like half-time heroes.
“Football Queensland is committed to strengthening the administration and delivery of football at every level of the game and is proud to be working alongside Brisbane Roar FC to maximise the football experience for all Queenslanders,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“Combining our strong ties to the grassroots football community with Brisbane Roar’s connection to football fans across the state ensures we can implement best practice delivery methods to unite the game in Queensland.
“This One Football approach has already reaped tangible benefits in the form of a stronger development pathway for the state’s most talented young players to the A-Leagues through the statewide FQ Academy program, with FQ Academy graduates Grace Kuilamu and Thomas Waddingham making their A-Leagues debuts in 2023.
“As we continue to deliver record year-on-year growth in every region and in the wake of the hugely successful FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ on home soil, there’s never been a more important time for us to work together to secure the best outcomes for our beautiful game.”

The Senior Officer – Football in the Community will work with FQ’s Game Development team to lead FQ and Roar Football in the Community initiatives supporting the shared goals of driving participation, maintaining active community representation, and achieving the key objective of 50/50 gender parity by 2027.
