Abraham Toro Hits First Home Run of the Season in Oakland Athletics Loss to Detroit Tigers

Abraham Toro hit his first home run of the season Friday in a 5-4 loss for the Oakland Athletics against the Detroit Tigers, who continued their excellent start to the season with a sixth victory in seven games.

For the A’s, it’s a fourth loss in a row, a seventh in eight games to start the season.

Toro hit a solo homer off Detroit starter Tarik Skubal in the seventh inning. Brent Rooker also stretched his arms for Oakland, hitting a long ball good for two runs in the sixth.

Matt Vierling and Mark Canha hit solo homers while Spencer Torkelson and Gio Urshela had two doubles and an RBI each for the Tigers, who are off to their best start to a season since 2015.

Skubal allowed four runs on four hits and two walks with nine strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings.

A’s starter JP Sears gave up four runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings.
