A milestone in the world of disability: the challenge of the climber Iván Germán

One only needs to spend some time with Ivan to realize that he is a climber full of energy and vitality. At the age of 23 he suffered a serious motorcycle accident that took his left leg above the knee. For Iván it was a hard blow and he needed a period to adapt to their new reality. With the unconditional support of his family and friends, after a while, he found new ways to address the passion for mountains and climbingactivities he practiced previously.

His determination has led him to become the second climber in the world with only one leg to climb a route of great difficulty -Excusometer (8b)-. A milestone in the history of paraclimbing, considering that 8b it is a grade that, at first, is a tough challenge even for climbers who have both legs. And it is that, the biomechanics that day technique used in climbing for a person with only one leg it changes completely.

Now, his sights are set on one new challenge: reach grade 8c in sport climbing, a challenge that will undoubtedly test your physical and mental abilities. However, Iván has a strong mind and clarity in his goals: he would like to achieve it by encourage other people with functional diversity to leave their comfort zone and do similar feats. However, it also emphasizes the importance of being aware and realistic about one’s own individual limits. Because if there is one thing that distinguishes Iván, it is that he knows his limits perfectly and pushes them to achieve the maximum result.
