The Eisbären Berlin are only one win away from the final of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). On Friday evening, the capital team won the third semi-final game against the Straubing Tigers 3:2 (2:1, 1:1, 0:0) and are now leading 3:0 in the best-of-seven series. Ty Ronning, Yannick Veilleux and Marcel Noebels ensured Berlin’s ultimate success with their goals.

In front of 14,200 spectators in the once again sold-out arena at the Ostbahnhof, the home team used their first power play after a disjointed opening minute: Straubing’s goalie Florian Bugl let a shot from Ronning slip through the pads. The Berliners now had the game under control, Veilleux extended the lead. However, Cole Fonstad was able to shorten the score for the guests just 28 seconds later.

The longest ice hockey game didn’t end until 2:33 a.m. that night

In a real extra time thriller, the Eisbären Berlin won the second playoff semi-final in the DEL against the Straubing Tigers. The encounter joins the list of the longest ice hockey games of all time.more

Shortly after the first break, the home team benefited again from a time penalty against Lower Bavaria. This time Noebels was successful in the majority. But the Straubingers found an answer again: Adrian Klein scored another goal. Berlin’s narrow lead was now constantly in danger. But the capital city team managed to overcome even a double-numbered situation without conceding a goal and get the result over time.

The potentially decisive game four will take place next Sunday (2 p.m.) in Straubing.
