“I felt comfortable at FC from the start, in the team and in the club. With its fans and the support of the entire city, FC is something very special. That’s why I really wanted to stay, in good times and in difficult times – even though I am convinced that we will manage to stay in the Bundesliga together in the next few weeks,” says Pentke about his extension.
The keeper wasn’t initially planned. After his contract with TSG Hoffenheim expired, Pentke, who knows FC sports boss Christian Keller (45) from their time together in Regensburg, actually just wanted to keep fit at Geißbockheim. After he was able to impress in the goalkeeping team, he was given the vacant position as number two behind Marvin Schwäbe (28).
Keller says about the personnel: “Philipp quickly developed into an important part of our team. With his experience he helps the other boys on the pitch as well as off the pitch. In addition, Philipp’s sporting ambition remains unbroken. He puts all his effort into every training session and ensures a good level and competition in the goalkeeper position.”
The only question that remains is who his competitors will be in the summer. With the return of “Crown Prince” Jons Urbig (20), an exciting goalkeeper constellation is emerging at FC. No matter who ends up between the posts, with Pentke you already have a deputy up your sleeve.
