Alexander Zverev reached the semifinals of the Masters 1000 tournament in Miami. The German beat Fabian Marozsan from Hungary 6:3 7:5 on Thursday. The fifth in the world rankings will now face the winner of the encounter between the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz and the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.

The 26-year-old Zverev had slight problems at the beginning with the outsider who was two years younger, but the Olympic champion didn’t show any weakness and converted his first match point after 1:37 hours. “I love Miami, I’ve always said that. “I’m happy to get this far in a tournament again and play against the best in the world,” said Zverev: “I’m looking forward to the next challenge.”

Sinner and Medvedev for a place in the final

In the second semi-final, defending champion Daniil Medvedev from Russia will face South Tyrolean Jannik Sinner. Sinner, who has already won the Australian Open and Rotterdam this year, defeated the Czech Tomas Machac 6:4 6:2 in the quarterfinals after 91 minutes. Medvedev beat Chilean Nicolas Jarry 6:2 7:6 (9/7).

Jannik Sinner remains unstoppable in Miami

“It will probably be a tactical match,” predicted Sinner. “It will be an interesting test for me,” said the South Tyrolean after his 20th victory this year. Medvedev is the defending champion in Miami and looks to be in shape for a repeat. In any case, he didn’t drop a set until the semi-finals.

Collins and Alexandrowa complete women’s semifinals

In the women’s category, the American Danielle Collins, who is ending her career at the end of this season, is surprisingly in the semi-finals. The 30-year-old Australian Open finalist from 2022 beat Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia 6:3 6:2 in the quarterfinals and will now face Yekaterina Alexandrova.

The Russian prevented a US semi-final duel with a 3:6 6:4 6:4 win against Jessica Pegula. The other semi-final will be contested by Kazakh Jelena Rybakina and Belarusian Viktoria Asarenka.
