Kawhi Leonard’s knee poses a mystery

“The knee didn’t react the way we had hoped,” Leonard admitted after the 90:101 defeat at the Dallas Mavericks. “Today there were only two options for me. Either I play limited minutes or not at all. But I wanted to be on the field to help the team.”

Leonard made his comeback in Game 2 after being unable to play since March 31 due to knee inflammation. Kawhi played 35 minutes there, this time it was only 25, in which Leonard only recorded 9 points (4/7 FG). This scene was symbolic of that, when Paul George had the idea to throw an alley oop at Leonard in transition. Kawhi converted this, but dangled on the ring for a long time in order to be able to land more safely and put less strain on the knee.

“It’s so frustrating that this is happening to me so late in the season,” said Leonard, who also said: “We will do everything necessary and make the right decisions.” It will now be decided together with the team what will happen next for Leonard in the coming games.
