Young Judo Standouts Prepare for Italian Championships in Naples

CHICKPEAS FLOUR PIE. Judo is commitment and passion. Carlotta Spadini, 17 years old, qualified for the Italian championships in Naples scheduled for April 7th by achieving third place as a brown belt in the Juniores category A-2 at Palamaggiore in Leini, a few kilometers from Turin, in the -63 kilo category. In Campania she will challenge the strongest of the peninsula following the advice of maestro Marco Tarchi, who trains her at the “Gianni Balestri” sports hall in via Ippolito Nievo together with Edoardo Villano, 1st Dan black belt, with whom she will attempt to conquer the podium in Campania after Easter. Both born in 2006 are members of Judo Rosignano. The technician, satisfied, will complete the program in these days. Carlotta attends the fourth class at the ITI “Enrico Mattei” and next year she will graduate as a chemical expert. She has a dream: to attend the military academy and carry out peacekeeping missions abroad, like her father, a colonel and judoka Master. An example to follow. «In Piedmont – she says – I took bronze by winning four matches and losing one. It was an experience that was not without difficulties, especially on a mental level, because I had to control my anxiety. I thought I wouldn’t achieve such prestigious results: after all, I’m in my first year of Junior and I’m fighting against opponents who are three years older than me. I’m very happy, I won one fight with an arm lock and the others with ippon. Yes, after high school I would like a career in uniform to travel and spread the culture of peace. I have an example at home: my dad. Learning about other cultures means enriching yourself on a human level and understanding different social conditions. In Palestine many people are on the side of the murderers and this means that man’s mind is not yet open. Instead, we need to distinguish good from evil, promote equal rights and better analyze the Palestinian situation where there are strong social conflicts.”

For Spadini, judo is a sport that trains discipline and builds character. He dedicates the victory to his family, where everyone has been practicing it for years. In the gym, with the athletes, he lets off steam and learns, organizing his day between school, study and training. A constant rhythm, precisely paced to avoid wasting time and making things happen. In Naples he will move up in category, same weight but A-1. “I will meet the strongest on the peninsula – he continues – and I will focus above all on mental management to control anxiety. Then I will give my best as always. I get on well with Maestro Tarchi: he supports me and treats me as if I were his daughter.” If she reaches the podium, the 1st Dan black belt will arrive. In Campania, with her, there will be Edoardo Villano, qualified by right after third place in the Italians and fifth in the 2023 overall at the “Matteo Pellicone” sports hall in Ostia. Fourth year student at the ITI in Livorno with a specialization in health biology, he has been practicing martial arts for six years and will try to repeat himself in Naples. Having taken the state exams in 2025, he would like to become a physiotherapist.
