Workers to whom Social Security could grant early retirement

The civil servants union, together with the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI), has submitted an urgent request to the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration.

The request seeks to guarantee early retirement for the 125,000 active public employees with disabilities in Spain. The lack of access to this benefit in the Passive Classes, in contrast to the general regime, has been pointed out as unfair discrimination by the union community.

The proposal is based on the need to comply with the recommendations of the 2020 Toledo Pactspecifically number 18. This recommendation highlights the importance of improving the protection of people with disabilities, including the possibility of early retirement for those workers whose life expectancy is lower due to their condition.

In addition to early retirement, the extension of the right to free pharmaceutical benefit for medications is proposed. At the moment limited to minors under 18 years of age with disabilities and parents in the General Regimeits application is sought in the Passive Classes to eliminate any unequal and discriminatory treatment.

These measures would not only represent progress in terms of inclusion for people with disabilities in the workplace, but would also be a significant step towards equity and social justice in the country’s social security system.
