Valieva, the scandalous Russian figure skater, used 56 different medications in two years

Valieva reached the peak of her career while training with the scandalous Eteri Tutberidze. All kinds of horror stories have been heard about the methods of the despotic Russian coach. For example, feeding teenage girls with substances that delay puberty.

The International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has issued a report on the number of substances found in Valieva’s anti-doping analysis.

It is reported that in the period from January 2020, when the athlete was only 13 years old, until December 2021, she took a total of 56 different medications and dietary supplements.

None of the mentioned substances is included in the list of prohibited substances of the International Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Valieva was handed a four-year ban earlier this year after testing positive for a banned substance during the 2022 Olympics.

The disqualification of the Russian athlete has caused a wide resonance in the figure skating community. Although Valiyeva was caught doping, she was still only a teenager at the time, surrounded by a team of adults.

The chairman of the WADA board, Travis Tygart, expressed his dismay in a conversation with the BBC that in the end only the athlete herself received the punishment.

“It’s disgusting. If the people around her broke the rules, then they should be punished too. She got a four-year suspension, which is a severe punishment. But she still tested positive for doping. But people who should have known about this doping,” Tygart said.

Russia won gold in the figure skating team competition of the 2022 Olympic Games. Due to Valieva’s disqualification, the team was deprived of her points. This did not prevent the Russian team from winning the bronze award.
