Ujčík: Flynn is responsible, but Moravčík is partly to blame for the injury

The four-game bans received by Flynn and in the preliminary round by Jaks from Litvín are the most severe verdicts handed down by the disciplinary committee. The other nine penalties were minor. Ujčík attributes this to the fact that it is still the beginning of the playoffs and the players still have a lot of strength. But sometimes they are presented just beyond the edge.

Does it help that referees can re-examine situations already on the ice?

Thank god for that, because it makes them time the interventions more accurately. It’s a win-win for everyone, as no one feels unfairly excluded. But it is also due to the fact that this year, for the first time, the analytical commission is functioning, which will not miss anything. In the past, those interventions were not resolved in this way, unless the teams filed an incitement against each other or there was no suspension for five minutes and until the end of the game.

The last time you punished was on Monday. Oscar Flynn received four games for hitting Sparta defender Michal Moravčík.

Flynn is not the type of player to do this, but unfortunately it happens. Today’s hockey is so fast that one bad decision is all it takes and disaster strikes. From my point of view, the Sparta defender bears thirty percent of the blame for the injury.

Brno – Litvínov, a rough foul by a Scotsman on Gut from Litvínov and the subsequent revenge of HavelkaVideo: Tipsport Extraliga / BPA

Why?

He looked over his shoulder to see Flynn behind him. But in front of the goalpost, he turned to face the puck and lowered his position even more. An experienced player like Moravčík should evaluate it a little differently and prepare for the impact.

You played hockey yourself. So how should a hockey player deal with it?

From my point of view, I would definitely not lower myself and go into the fight sideways. When you go to finish someone off, you wait for them to turn sideways. But in any case, Flynn bears full responsibility for the intervention. The danger of that situation was similar to that of Jakub Lev (he got three games – editor’s note), but here it was with an injury. This was reflected in the amount of the punishment.

Litvínov – Plzeň, sharp foul by Lva and subsequent fightVideo: Tipsport Extraliga / BPA

Ščotka from Brno received three matches for a foul on Gut from Litvín. How did you see the situation there?

If he hadn’t hit him in the head, everything would have been fine. The problem is that after the shot the opponent is in a disadvantageous position and has no chance to defend himself. Šcotka timed it for this very moment, which was one bad thing.

And the other one?

He further increased his position. He pulled himself up to add more intensity to the impact, but hit the player squarely on the head. The amount of the punishment depended on this. In addition, Ščotka is a recidivist, so in the overall context he received three matches plus a ten percent deduction from his monthly salary.

Summary of punishments in the playoff 4 matches: Janis Jaks (Litvínov), Oscar Flynn (Liberec) 3 matches: Jakub Lev (Plzen), Jan Ščotka (Brno) 2 matches: Jan Ordoš, Tomáš Chlubna (both Č. Budějovice), Ondřej Beránek ( K. Vary), Matěj Prčík (Vítkovice), Jan Švrček (Olomouc) 1 match: Jakub Valský (Č. Budějovice), Martin Havelka (Litvínov)
