Austria’s U17 national team had to be content with a draw against Norway in the elite round of European Championship qualification on Saturday. After the 2-0 opening win against Slovenia, coach Martin Scherb’s team came to the home tournament in Wr. Neustadt to a 2:2.
Ilia Ivanschitz with a penalty (36′) and Philip Moizi (64′) turned the game around after an early 0-1 deficit. But Jonathan Norbye equalized late on (92nd) for the Norwegians, who were decimated by a red card.
Finally, tournament favorite Spain awaits the ÖFB team on Tuesday, which still has every chance of promotion with four points. The group winner and the seven best runners-up from the eight elite round groups qualify for the finals from May 20th to June 5th in Cyprus.
