Twins Julian and Hector Vincent Crowned French Judo Champions: Eyes Set on European Championships

It was at the age of three that twin brothers Julian and Hector Vincent first set foot on the tatami of the town’s municipal dojo under the direction of their dad Bruno, the emblematic coach of the Biasais judo club. After obtaining titles and medals in the various age categories, they found their way in 2019 where they turned towards katas, a variant of judo where the sequences of techniques performed in pairs and simulating a real fight are noted by judges.

Their rapid rise on the national level has earned them the opportunity to participate four times in the French under-23 championships, with a 5th place in 2019 (no competition in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid), 3rd in 2022 and 2nd in 2023. Faced with this regular progression, everyone began to hope for the supreme crowning achievement in 2024 at the end of their 4th qualification. On Saturday March 16, our two ambassadors did not miss the turn in Tergnier (Aisne): here they are champions of France. A title which brings President Jean-Marc Tonti to the height of happiness and which resonates throughout the entire Bias city.

“As we had good feelings, we didn’t put too much pressure on ourselves, analyze Julian, the tori (the one who causes the fall) of the couple and Hector, the uke (the one who falls). After the first passage in the group in front of the judges and a first place with 393 points out of 510, we reach the final at the end of the second where we improve our viaticum with 419 points (394 for the second).”

This national title in their pocket propels them to the European Championships on June 10 and 11 in Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina). A 3rd participation after those of 2022 in Croatia (bronze medal) and 2023 (silver medal). “As usual, we will play our card to the fullest,” explain Hector and Julian, “but this year we will be confined to the role of outsiders. Since France 2024, the situation has changed with the disappearance of the under-23 category. years. Now for the senior category. With a very high level, it will be hard to find a place in the sun in view of the Las Vegas world championships for which only one French duo will possibly qualify.”

Fifth at this stage of the competition in Poland in 2022 and in Abu Dhabi in 2023, the two brothers, aware that their chances for a third term are limited, nevertheless remain hopeful. For now, they are continuing their studies at STAPS in Bordeaux.
