Down Syndrome National Basketball Team, which reached the finals in basketball at the 2nd Down Syndrome World Sports Games (Trisome Games) in Antalya, lost to Italy 18-17 and became the 2nd in the world.

In the second Down Syndrome World Sports Games, which was held between 20-26 March this year and hosted by Antalya, the Down Syndrome Basketball National Team faced Italy in the final.

The first period of the match between Italy and Turkey basketball team at Gazi Mustafa Kemal Indoor Sports Hall ended with Turkey leading 5-3, while Italy finished the first half ahead 9-7. The Italian national team started the third period well and entered the final period with a 12-10 advantage. The last period of the fight witnessed great conflict. Down Syndrome National Basketball Team could not take advantage of the chances they had, so they lost the match 18-17 and became second in the world.

PLAYERS EXPERIENCED GREAT SORRY

The champion Italy Down Syndrome Basketball National Team and Benci felt great joy. The players of the Turkish Down Syndrome Basketball National Team experienced great sadness.

Some of the players were consoled by the technical staff and Special Athletes Federation President Birol Aydın.

Then, the teams were presented with their cups and medals.

Special Athletes Federation President Birol Aydın said, “This is a sport, of course. Italy may have been the champion in terms of numbers, but we played a very good game as Turkey. Sometimes we had unlucky moments and could not get the points. Brotherhood won here. We are a newly established team. A newly established team can reach the final. “It is a great success for them to play. I kiss the eyes of our technical staff and athletes. It was a very good fight. Turkish national teams always played at the top in all branches. Hopefully, these children will be world champions from now on,” he said.
