Tragic Discovery: Body of Young Judoka Found in Ebro River After 19 Days – Investigation Underway

The Nationals have announced the release of Zach Davies and the reassignment of multiple top prospects to their minor league camp.

The Nationals have officially let go of Zach Davies and have sent a number of their highly regarded prospects back to the minor league camp.

On Friday, the Nationals revealed that they have let go of experienced pitcher Zach Davies, who was attending camp on a minor league agreement. The team also demoted veteran pitcher Richard Bleier and first baseman Juan Yepez, along with prospects James Wood, Brady House, Dylan Crews, and Robert Hassell III, back to the minor league camp. Bleier and Yepez, similar to Davies, were invited to camp on non-roster contracts for the spring.

Yepez, who is 26 years old, joined the Nationals team’s training camp with the goal of securing a spot in the team’s first base/left field/designated hitter rotation. Similar to Bleier, his performance has been impressive with a .387 batting average, .424 on-base percentage, and .581 slugging percentage, including a few home runs in 33 at-bats. Yepez did not have much success in his limited time with the Cardinals, batting .240/.286/.419 with a 97 wRC+, particularly due to his lack of speed and defensive skills. However, he has a strong track record in Triple-A, where he has a batting line of .279/.349/.515 in 948 plate appearances.

Wood was considered the most promising player among the top prospects who were sent to the minors today, although his chances of making the roster were slim. The 21-year-old power hitter was a key part of the trade that brought Juan Soto back to Washington from the Padres (along with Hassell), and he made a strong case for himself this spring with a .341 batting average, .491 on-base percentage, and .707 slugging percentage, including four home runs. Despite his impressive performance, Wood has yet to play at the Triple-A level and has only appeared in 87 games higher than A-ball. He will continue to develop in the upper minors, but as one of the highest-ranked prospects in the game, he has a good chance of making his debut in the MLB in 2024.

Starting in the 2022 season, Davies joined the D-backs starting pitchers. He had a decent performance as a lower-ranked pitcher, throwing 134 1/3 innings with a 4.09 ERA. However, his strikeout and walk rates were not as good as the average. In the following year, he struggled with a 7.00 ERA in 82 1/3 innings due to injuries to his back and oblique. Throughout his career, Davies has not been a strong strikeout pitcher, only striking out 17.5% of his opponents. However, he has consistently had good control (8.1% walk rate) and a slightly above-average ground-ball rate (44.9%). While not the most impressive skills, Davies has been able to limit hard contact and maintain a 4.36 ERA in his career, despite having a below-average fastball speed of under 90 mph.

Davies, who is 31 years old, was recruited to add some depth to a shallow rotation. However, he struggled during spring training, giving up 14 runs in 14 innings. He allowed 20 hits, including two home runs, and walked seven batters while also hitting one. He did manage to strike out 17 of the 69 batters he faced, a higher rate than his usual, but overall, his performance was not impressive. He will now seek to join another team that requires additional support.

Two experienced players, Bleier and Yepez, did not make it onto the team. Bleier, who is about to turn 37, had an impressive performance in the pre-season, only giving up two runs on eight hits and no walks while recording nine strikeouts in 10 2/3 innings. The left-handed pitcher, known for his slower pitches, is hoping to improve from his 5.28 ERA in his previous team, Boston. During the years 2020-2022, he had a strong record of 125 1/3 innings with an ERA of 3.09, despite having below-average strikeout rates. However, his excellent control and ability to induce ground balls were his strengths during this time period.
