Football club KSV Diksmuide played champions on Saturday evening and was promoted to national level. A major title celebration followed at the De Pluimen sports complex in Pluimstraat in Diksmuide. A 57-year-old man who lives nearby also joined the party. Around 3 o’clock on Sunday morning there appeared to be no trace of him left. His son went home, but he did not find his father there either. He then started searching around the area, but he didn’t find his father.
At 7 o’clock, when it was light, the family started searching again. They quickly found the man in a canal. The emergency services arrived but the man was dead. He probably slipped and drowned.
