This time, Nosková was unsuccessful against the world number one Šwiateková, the Czechs finished in Indian Wells

Linda Nosková (19) shined at the Australian Open in January by scalping the biggest favorite Iga Šwiateková (22), but in the third round of the 1000 in Indian Wells, California, she did not find the recipe for world number one. The last Czech hope in women’s singles lost to last year’s champion despite a great start clearly 4:6, 0:6. Markéta Vondroušová (24) did not compete for the round of 16 for personal reasons.

Šwiateková – Nosková 6:4, 6:0

In the third round of the Australian Open in January, Linda Nosková shocked the entire tennis world with a successful turnaround against world number one Iza Šwiateková. However, at the same stage of the “fifth Grand Slam” in Indian Wells, she did not even take a breath for a potential turn on the slower concrete, which suits her opponent better.

In the second game, she eliminated two break points and, thanks to her aggressive and accurate game, she was able to take a 4:2 lead in two breaks. However, she didn’t use one of the three chances, two in a row, and gradually lost 12 fifteens in a row due to her own mistakes. In the final game of the opening act, she had two gameballs, but she threw away the ending and Šwiateková took the lead after a winning backhand shot. Since the last break point in the seventh game, Nosková won just three of the 19 final points in the first set.

The loss of the well-played opening act obviously threw Nosková, as she made cheap mistakes at the beginning of the next one as well, and allowed Šwiateková to quickly run away to a 3:0 lead. In the end, she caught a humiliating canary and did not win a single game from 4:2 40:15.

Nosková played her fifth tournament in the current season, and after advancing over Camila Giorgova, she ensured that she would leave the Californian desert with at least one win. At the BNP Paribas Open, she appeared for the second time in her career, she was also eliminated in the third round last year, when she was not enough in two sets against the native Coco Gauff.

Her balance with representatives of the TOP 10 of the world ranking worsened to 5:8, after Šwiateková at the Australian Open, she also defeated Maria Sakkariová at the February 1000 in Doha. The quarter-finalist at the Australian Open in January has already played in the quarter-finals at the WTA 250 and 500 events as well as at the Grand Slams, but she is still waiting for her first participation among the top eight in the 1000s.

Šwiateková, who adjusted the mutual balance to 2:1 in her favor, also made it to the round of 16 in her fourth start at Indian Wells. She triumphed in this venue the year before and was eliminated in the semi-finals last year.

She improved her excellent balance this year to 16:2, in the current year she was only not good enough for Nosková in the third round of the Australian Open and for the hot Anna Kalinska in Dubai. She will face Julia Putintseva in the round of 16.

Vondroušová resigned for personal reasons

One of the last three Czech hopes in the fight to advance to the round of 16 of the BNP Paribas Open should have been Markéta Vondroušová. The reigning Wimbledon champion, who is not having a very successful season after participating in the quarterfinals at last year’s US Open, did not participate in the third round match and automatically sent Marta Kosťuková to the next stage.

According to Reuters, the Czech number one apologized for personal reasons. We do not know further details, and it is not at all certain whether the native of Sokolov will participate in the upcoming 1000 in Miami, Florida.
