The Rise of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Fight4Fun Club Welcomes New Members

Still a foreign word among the common martial arts such as judo, boxing etc. and “Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu”. But the discipline is booming: “Fight4Fun” in Aurolzmünster welcomes many new members.

AUROLZMÜNSTER. Lucas Kastinger-Mesquita practices Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and founded the “Fight4Fun” club in Aurolzmünster nine months ago: “I love this sport because it’s not about strength, but above all about technique. It’s all about technique Line about respect.” He currently has around 40 club members, and in addition to adults, children aged four to eight train with him.

“With children, we don’t focus on fighting. Here it’s more about respecting your fellow human beings. If someone is sad, you should comfort them; if someone is embarrassed, you shouldn’t laugh at them,”

says Kastinger. He himself comes from Brazil and also played the sport there. Today he is also part of the “BJJ Academy” in Braunau am Inn.

Ground combat with a focus on technique

In his studio he offers training for the sports “Brazilian Jiu Jitsu” and “Grappling”. The latter is basically the same as BJJ, just without the kimono. “Both are part of ground combat, which means the duels are fought on or near the ground like in wrestling,” says Kastinger. The big goal in BJJ is to force your opponent to give up by using grip techniques etc. But there are no blows or punches. Kastinger likes to call the sport “human chess” because of its tactical elements.

More plans

Kastinger is currently pleased about the great interest in the sport: “A lot of interested people came to our stand at the sports fair.” He is currently training with his courses in the shared hall of the “LM Arena Boxing Gym” in Aurolzmünster. The existing premises are currently being expanded so that a separate BJJ area will be created in the coming months. There is also a weight room in the studio.
If you’re interested in the sport, it’s best to contact Kastinger first: “We’ll then arrange an initial appointment and look for the right kimono.”
