Alejandro Grimaldo is one of the discoveries of the Bundesliga season so far. The Spaniard only moved to Bayer 04 in the summer, and with nine goals and 12 assists in 26 games, he played a key role in Leverkusen’s successful run.
This of course arouses desire. The 28-year-old leaves the question of his future open for now.
Grimaldo: “Wants to play for Spain at the European Championships”
At a press conference for the Spanish national team, the Valencia native was cryptic: “I think there are rumors every summer. It always seems that I will go to many different big clubs, but I focus on Bayer Leverkusen.”
This focus is also necessary, Bayer is on the verge of sensationally winning the German championship. Xabi Alonso’s team is ten points ahead of German record champions Bayern Munich with eight rounds to go. Grimaldo has big plans: “The season is going very successfully. I want to keep working hard, win titles and play for Spain at the European Championships.”
If that happens and Grimaldo also shows up at the European Championships in Germany, Leverkusen will probably no longer be able to keep him – despite a contract until 2027.
