The Professional Basketball Super League Unveils New Competition Format for 2024 Season

The Professional Basketball Super League defined the new competition format that will govern the tournament in 2024. The competition has a knockout phase of 24 games per team that will begin on May 1.

The format will allow the teams in each group to face each other three times, one at home, one away and the third at the headquarters of the team that obtains the best average points in the particular series.

The four best teams in each group will advance to the postseason and the teams that manage to be in positions five and six in each group will face each other in a “play-in”. The two play-in winners will qualify for the next round.

The “play-in” series will be played for a maximum of two games at the headquarters of the team that finished in fifth place. On the other hand, the team that finishes in sixth place must win two games to advance and the team that finishes in fifth place will qualify for the next round.

Groups of the Professional Basketball Super League 2024

Group 1 includes Brillantes del Zulia, Broncos de Caracas, Frontinos del Táchira, Gladiadores de Anzoátegui, Llaneros de Guárico, Pioneros del Ávila, Spartans Distrito Capital, Toros de Aragua and Trotamundos de Carabobo.

Prior to the semifinal, a substitution of a Creole or an imported player may be made. In the case of imported ones, the team may make the substitution if its payroll does not exceed the quota of foreigners.

Once the team reaches the final of the competition, it will be able to make another substitution including players from the eliminated teams.

The Professional Basketball Super League (SPB) also announced Rolando Urdaneta as the organization’s new general manager.

National Basketball Super League since 2022

At the beginning of May 2022, the Venezuelan Basketball Federation (FVB) announced that the Professional Basketball League (LPB) and the Basketball Super League (SLB) would disappear in Venezuela.

The announcement was made through X, where it was reported that the disappearance of both tournaments leads to the birth of another tournament: Professional Basketball Super League (SPB). This new tournament was born from the merger of the two previous tournaments.
