the officials do not block the accesses but plant Ubasart again

BarcelonaAs already happened last Friday, the unions of prison officials plan to plant the Government again this Tuesday. In this way, the workers maintain the demands they set last week: they will not sit down to talk until the Secretary of Penal Measures and Director General of Penitentiary Services, Amand Calderó, resigns. The decision of the representatives, then, once again makes clear the castration of both parties after the beginning of the protests following the death of Núria, a cook from Mas d’Enric, last Wednesday at the hands of a prisoner.

Nevertheless, this Tuesday there will be a kind of truce at the gates of the penitentiary centers: the workers do not plan to block the entrances and will move their protests to Barcelona. This, however, they will not do through the unions. Today at ten in the morning a press conference is scheduled at the College of Journalists where selected workers from each penitentiary center will explain the demands they are making to the Ministry of Justice. Depending on how the day evolves today, it will be decided whether to return to the blockades for this Wednesday. For the time being, Catalan prisons are back to normal.

This truce comes the day after the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia asked the Government to report on minimum services “derived from the acts of protest by prison officials”. The problem with this demand lies in the fact that, at the moment, there are no minimum services, since it is a spontaneous protest without any called strike.

During the last day, inside the prisons, a situation of blockade was once again experienced: in six of the nine penitentiary centers the prisoners had to stay in their cells because of the lack of cash. In total, 4,000 inmates had to stay behind bars 24 hours a day. The only centers that opened cells were Brians 2, Quatre Camins and Joves.
