Classification

Jonathan Isaac, the Magic’s defensive cheat code

– Atlanta has achieved one of the comebacks of the season! The Hawks came back from 30 points behind (68-38 4 minutes before halftime) against the Celtics, who remained on 9 consecutive victories and 20 successes in 22 matches. Boston fell asleep completely and was knocked down, with a 3-point shot from Deandre Hunter (24 pts) 9 seconds from the end as game winner.

– The fight for places 3 to 5 rages in the East:

  • Cleveland recovered from the beating it received against Miami by easily beating Charlotte thanks to a big game ofEvan Mobley (17 pts, 8 asts, 7 rebounds) in particular. Marcus Morris was ejected directly for an elbow on Nick Richards.
  • New York consolidated its 4th place while waiting for the Magic to be in action and remains one step behind the Cavs. The Knicks dominated the Pistons at the Garden, on a night where Donte DiVincenzo was at the party. The former Villanova guard broke his personal NBA record (40 pts) and that of the number of 3-point baskets scored in a game by a Knicks player with 11 (!), now ahead of Evan Fournier and JR Smith.

– Without playing, the Pelicans took 4th place from the Clippers, definitely in a bad situation. Los Angeles lost sharply at home against Indiana and can no longer win at home (5 defeats in a row), suffering attacks from Pascal I’m sorry (31 pts) and Myles Turner (24 pts) in particular, in the 4th quarter. The only bright spot for the entire Clippers: the return of Russell Westbrook after a 12-match absence. The Clippers can no longer defend a caramel and Ty Lue has work to do at the end of the regular season.

– Another good operation in the West, that of Dallas, which is now ahead of Phoenix since:

  • The Suns were beaten in San Antonio against the Spurs who were deprived of Victor Wembanyama, resting to treat his ankle. Jeremy Sochan had one of his best career matches (26 pts, 18 rebounds), with the help of Devin Vassell (26 pts) for a San Antonio team more aggressive and determined than its visitors. Devin Booker (36 pts) and Kevin Durant (29 pts) did their best, while losing Bradley Beal 3 minutes from time to a finger injury.
  • The Mavs did the job on the Jazz floor, with a triple-double for Luka Doncic (29 pts, 13 asts, 12 rebounds), 27 points for Kyrie Irving and big defense in the 4th quarter to limit Utah to 17 points. This is the 4th victory in a row for Dallas, who is now 7th in a perfect tie with the Kings, 6th.
  • The Kings, in fact, dominated Philadelphia at home, during an evening marked by the individual accomplishments of Domantas Sabonis, author of his 25th triple-double (11 pts, 13 rebounds, 10 asts) of the season. Before him, only Oscar Robertson, Wilt Chamberlain, Russell Westbrook and Nikola Jokic had achieved it. Sabonis also recorded his 54th consecutive double-double, to now surpass Kevin Love (53) and hold the longest streak since 1976 and the merger between the ABA and the NBA. Nicolas Batum started for the Sixers and played 21 minutes (0 pts, 3 rebounds).

– Denver consolidated its first place in the West when it hosted the Grizzlies. Nikola Jokic only needed to play three quarters to compile 29 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. The Nuggets were able to give playing time to their young bench squad (Watson, Gillespie and Strawther played more than 20 minutes) and opportunities to Christian Braun, starter in the absence of Jamal Murray and author of 17 points.

– Houston continues its pressure to dislodge the Warriors from the 10th and last qualifying place for the play-in and are not far from achieving it. The Rockets accelerated in the second half against Portland to clinch their 9th consecutive victory and trail Golden State more than ever. Jalen Green was less skillful than in previous meetings, but he still managed to finish with 27 points (9/26) and have a positive impact on the Texans’ game. The beautiful story continues for Ime Udoka’s group.

– In the anecdotal matches of the night:

  • The Wizards signed a third victory in a row! Washington surprised Chicago on the road, with 23 points from Jordan Poole and the first career double-double from Corey Kispert (19 pts, 12 rebounds).
  • The Raptors lost their 11th straight game, this time at home, against Brooklyn. The Nets remained on 6 consecutive defeats, but recovered in the wake of Dennis Schröder and Trendon Watford (19 pts).
