Champions’ Route: A Journey of Judo, Learning, and Sharing in Montauban

the essential With the “Champions’ Route” operation initiated by the French federation, the Departmental Committee offers its licensees, but also the youngest, beautiful moments of sharing.

Champions, and children, this is the winning cocktail put together by the French Judo Federation which launched some time ago a sports tour of several annual dates which offers the discovery of judo, and awareness of its values. This tour will stop in Montauban on Wednesday April 3, Thursday 4, and Friday April 5, in the city of Ingres. “We are really very happy to host this event. It is an opportunity to highlight our discipline during the Olympic and Paralympic week, with the presence of champions and figures of our discipline. We have worked a lot to offer the best possible program” explains Lionel Quillet, president of the Tarn-et-Garonne Departmental Committee. “We are a fairly developed committee, because we have judo clubs almost ten to fifteen minutes away maximum. We have 25 clubs, 30 practice locations, for 2,400 licensees. We had fallen before covid, but as soon as we returned on the mats the licensees have returned. Our partnership with National Education to set up judo cycles in schools allows us to take our activity beyond the dojos. This event can also help develop activity in the department. This “Times, it’s the champions who come to meet us, and not the other way around. We are delighted” insists Mickaël Delon, technical advisor for Lot, and Tarn-et-Garonne. Frédéric Lecanu, responsible for the event at the French Federation, can only rejoice: “It is an operation which has enjoyed great success wherever it takes place. Generally, it is over a 48-hour format, but at Montauban, you saw things in a big way, with a third day. This event allows us to promote the philosophy of our discipline through the actions carried out, and the experiences of our champions, who also come to the meeting. There are of course the medals, but that’s not all. Judo goes beyond simple medals. We are very happy to come to Montauban to promote these actions.”

Very beautiful people alongside the children

For three days, participants will have the pleasure of rubbing shoulders with six champions, starting with Cathy Arnaud, the first judokate to win an Olympic medal, and twice champion of the mode. She will be accompanied by Céline Lebrun (silver at the Olympic Games, and world team champion), Estelle Gaspard (regional stage, four times world jujitsu champion), Alexandre Iddir (Olympic team champion at the Tokyo Games) , Guillaume Chaine (world team champion in Tokyo), and Guy Delvingt (bronze medalist at the European championship).
