The Next Head Coach: Ralf Rangnick Emerges as Bayern Munich’s 1B Solution

The next name!

Since it became clear that Thomas Tuchel (50) was leaving FC Bayern in the summer, the search for a successor for the German record champions has been in full swing.

Leverkusen’s successful coach Xabi Alonso (42) was considered Bayern’s dream coach. But now Alonso has clarified his future and decided that he will continue to coach Leverkusen next season.

As Kicker reports, Ralf Rangnick (65) could be the first alternative.

Is Ralf Rangnick now Bayern’s 1B solution?

One thing is clear: Alonso was still at the top of the coaching list of the new sports director Max Eberl (50) and sports director Christoph Freund (46). But Bayern also have other candidates on their radar.

This also includes Rangnick. The current Austrian national coach has been enormously successful there since the start of his engagement in the summer of 2022, easily qualified for the European Championship and beat, among others, the DFB-Elf (2-0) and Turkey (6-1) in friendly matches.

Rangnick (then Head of Sport and Development at RB) was in contact with Bayern as early as 2019 – and canceled. In the end it was Niko Kovac (52).

Nevertheless, according to BILD information, the Italian Roberto De Zerbi (44) is still the top alternative at Bayern.

The Brighton coach is considered one of the greatest coaching talents and, despite limited resources, impresses in the Premier League with his inspiring and dominant offensive football.

The Munich management team has already contacted him.

Starting the conversation with de Zerbi fits Bayern’s approach: They want to work on a long list, check different names and talk to candidates in order to then get a clear picture of Tuchel’s successor.

Rangnick also belongs to this circle.
