SLIDESHOW – Following a weekend marked by the domination of the Lebrun brothers at the French table tennis championships, and the poor performance of the French football team against the Mannschaft, find out what we liked and less pleased the Sports editorial team at Le Figaro.

This weekend of March 23 and 24, 2024, many French athletes distinguished themselves, others experienced great disappointments. To start with the positive, Alexis beat his little brother Félix in the final of the French table tennis championships dominated from start to finish by the Lebruns. Same for women with the Lutz family: Charlotte lost in the final against her big sister Camille.

On the football planet, the France team, led by its captain Kylian Mbappé, was outclassed by its historic German rival in a friendly in Lyon. While Endrick, 17, burst onto the screen at Wembley against England, and gave Brazil victory by scoring the only goal of the match.

On the rugby side, the Blues got off to a perfect start to their Six Nations Tournament by knocking out Ireland. Toulon raised its head in the Top 14 ranking by crushing Montpellier.

Finally, in motor sports, the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne saw a rare event occur: the retirement of the three-time reigning world champion Max Verstappen, which allowed Ferrari to achieve a double, while at Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton had to abandon the race, and George Russell was the victim of an impressive crash before the end. At the bottom of the class, Alpine still hasn’t scored any points. In the lower category, Frenchman Isack Hadjar was victorious for the first time in Formula 2.

Concerning MotoGP, Jorge Martin took control of the ranking by winning at Portimao in Portugal, after a very serious performance. Behind him, there were numerous falls a few laps from the finish, including the collision between world champions Marquez and Bagnaia.
