The Isaiah Thomas Comeback: A Phoenix Suns Story

After four big performances in as many games in the G League, with the Salt Lake City Stars, Isaiah Thomas was rewarded for his current form (and his forcing for years) by being offered a ten-year contract by the Suns. days in the NBA. What if that was the great story of this end of the season?

The last time Isaiah Thomas played for the Suns was almost ten years ago. He obviously wasn’t an All-Star yet, not an All-NBA 1st Team, and he hadn’t yet become an absolute Celtics legend in less than two seasons. From ? A very, very long road, made of great exploits as we have just spoken about, but also strewn with pitfalls, hip prostheses and other repeated MRIs.

Because it must be said, since his incredible 2016/17 season, the career of the tiny playmaker has been nothing but a succession of disappointments…

Cleveland, Los Angeles, Washington, Denver, New Orleans, Dallas, Charlotte, so many ports to which IT was unable to attach itself, and requests for requests, forcing and lobbying and self-promotion in selfishness… Isaiah saw his reputation of “dude finito” grow faster than his prize list had done a few years earlier.

In short, the good news of the day is that after three big matches in the G League then a final one last night, the Suns called on their former player for a period of ten days.

The famous four matches in question:

  • 32 points at 10/23 shooting including 5/17 from the parking lot and 7/8 from shots, 1 rebound, 4 assists and 1 steal in 39 minutes
  • 30 points at 10/23 shooting including 6/14 from the parking lot and 4/4 from shots, 2 rebounds, 8 assists and 1 steal in 37 minutes
  • 34 points at 9/20 shooting including 8/13 from the parking lot and 8/8 from shots, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals in 37 minutes
  • 34 points at 11/20 shooting including 7/12 from the parking lot and 5/6 from shots, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal in 35 minutes

And four victories for the Salt Lake City Stars.

We know the point guard position is quite deserted in Phoenix, with guys taking the position even though it’s not on their job description, so we say to ourselves… why not. Why not, even if the little one is exposed for life in defense, even if health seems precarious at this level of competition and for more than a week. We say why not because we remember these legendary evenings at TD Garden, and because the former Boston point guard is one of those who gave us faith in clutchitude and strength of character in recent years

No one knows if this signature will be followed by a more secure fixed-term contract, even if we fear knowing the answer, given the boy’s background. In any case, we can tell you that we will be in front of the TV this evening to see the – potential – debut of IT against the Bucks. It will be from 6 p.m. so save the hour, because IT as an aperitif, even in 2024, is clearly unmissable!

IT is back: 11-year vet and two-time All-Star Isaiah Thomas is planning to sign a 10-day contract with the Phoenix Suns, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Thomas averaged 33 points on 45 percent 3-point shooting for Salt Lake City in the NBA G League, scoring 30 in four games. pic.twitter.com/4XrKEINKut
