A thick plastic film covers the four paintings placed at the foot of the wall. Apart from the bright colors that stand out, it is impossible to distinguish the features, the patterns. Intrigued, the Paris Basketball players walk past, coming out of their training at the Halle Carpentier, and take a curious look. They have no idea that the author of these works is one of their partners.
These paintings are Mehdy Ngouama’s secret garden. His refuge. The Parisian playmaker doesn’t talk about it. Never. By modesty. “Out of fear” of the gaze of others. The paintings are not protected but “hidden” by the plastic. “I have a special relationship with these paintings,” breathes this autodidact who has “always loved drawing” and has “a good” right hand. “As soon as I finish one, I lock it under a plastic sheet. I don’t watch them anymore. I don’t keep them at home…”
