The Future of Chicago Bears: Plans for a $2 Billion Stadium and Entertainment Complex

The stadiums of the new world, modern, technological, and with multiple forms of entertainment, continue their expansion in the world, and especially in the United States.

The Chicago Bears have announced that they plan to invest $2 billion in the construction of their new facility, which would involve the demolition of the legendary Soldier Field, opened in 1924.

“The Chicago Bears are proud to contribute more than $2 billion to build a stadium and improve open spaces for all families, fans and the public to enjoy in the city of Chicago,” said President and CEO of the Bears, Kevin Warren, through a statement.

“The future Chicago Bears stadium will bring a transformative opportunity to our region: boosting the economy, creating jobs, facilitating mega-events and generating millions in tax revenue. We look forward to sharing more information when our plans are finalized,” he added.

What happened to the Arlington Heights project?

The Chicago Bears had planned to build their new home on the outskirts of the city, in a suburb called Arlington Heights, where they purchased a 326-acre plot of land. However, many things have changed since the purchase of said land: On the one hand, the Bears have established a better relationship with the government, owner of Soldier Field, where the team originally wanted to build; and second, the real estate taxes they intend to charge the NFL franchise for building in Arlington Heights are more than double what the team believes it should pay.

These discrepancies have opened the door for the Bears to find the possibility of staying in the city center, a privileged location with spectacular views of both the emblematic buildings and the iconic Lake Michigan.

Major League Baseball’s White Sox are also trying to build a new stadium just west of Soldier Field, and could work closely with the Bears to push both projects forward.
