Florian Kohfeldt resigned as head coach at KAS Eupen on Saturday evening. He did this immediately after the 4-0 defeat that his club received from Standard.
Kohfeldt has been coach of KAS Eupen since July 1, 2023. Just before the start of the play-offs, he decided to end his time at the club.
Kohfeldt reveals that he actually made his decision three weeks ago. “This is not an emotional decision and I did not make it overnight,” he said, according to Het Laatste Nieuws.
“For myself, I had already made the decision about three weeks ago, because there are also a number of private reasons behind it. I would like to thank Eupen for the wonderful ten months I have had at this club.”
CEO Cristoph Henkel really wanted to keep Kohfeldt, he says. “Until the last moment, CEO Christoph Henkel tried to convince me to reconsider my decision, because it indicates that people here at Eupen were not entirely dissatisfied with my performance. I would also like to wish the club and the players every success in the game -downs.”
KAS Eupen is currently 14th in the rankings with 24 points. The club now has to look for a new trainer, just before Eupen starts the Relegation Play-offs.
