The Catalan Dragons crush Halifax in the round of 16 of the Cup and advance to the quarter-finals

Objective fulfilled for the Catalan Dragons. Steve McNamara’s players, who made their debut in the Cup this Sunday, directly in the round of 16, easily dominated Halifax, in England (40-4). Facing the fourth-placed Championship (English Second Division), the Catalans scored in the second minute through Tom Davies, who scored a hat-trick in the first period with two other goals in the 6th and 14th minutes. Paul Séguier also had his try at the half-hour mark, to bring the score to 24-0 at half-time in favor of the “Dracs”.

A good result before the shock

The second act will be of the same ilk with three new tries by Romano (42nd), Rougé (62nd), and Satae (67th). The only minor problem was that the Dragons’ defense, impervious throughout the match, cracked in the final moments with a try from Saltonstall which allowed Halifax to save the honor (40-4). Winners of the competition in 2018, the Perpignan team continue their journey towards the final at Wembley on June 8. The draw for the quarters, which will be held from April 12 to 14, will take place this Monday.

Next week, Benjamin Garcia and his teammates will return to the Super League where they occupy 3rd position, with a shock against Leader Warrington, Saturday at 4 p.m. for the 6th day.

A match that will be followed live on L’Équipe Live.
