Tennis: the abandonment of Cazaux after a strange discomfort in the middle of a match during the Miami qualifications

An unusual scene occurred on a Miami court this Monday, relayed on the social network X, during a qualifying match for the 2nd Masters 1000 of the season. Harold Mayot and Arthur Cazaux, two young French players played the last set of a fierce game.

Cazaux led 6-4, 5-7, 2-1, but Mayot was serving at 30-A. Cazaux was preparing to receive the opposing service when he collapsed, visibly suffering from discomfort. And possibly because of the heat, around 30 degrees.

Immediately, a trainer rushed to the young Montpellier’s bedside and after a few minutes, the latter was evacuated using a wheelchair, while the chair umpire obviously announced the player’s abandonment.

It is therefore Mayot who will face the Belgian David Goffin (106th) in the next round for a place in the big draw.

Mayot’s development

Denigrated on social networks by certain people who criticize him for his lack of empathy and his reluctance to inquire about the health of his compatriot when the latter collapsed, Mayot responded on Twitter): “Stop starting a false controversy for nothing. It had been several games since he didn’t feel well and he was starting to cramp. I didn’t see him fall and I thought he was lying down because he had a cramp. When I realized it was serious, I immediately went to him and I was very worried. I did my best to help. There is nothing but great friendship and complicity between us and always has been. You need to stop sending your hate all the time. I wish him a good recovery and the best. »

A former great French hope long hampered by injuries, Cazaux, 21 years old and currently 74th player in the world, burst onto the scene at the start of the year by crossing the table at the Australian Open in January. In Melbourne, he reached the round of 16, beating the Dane Holger Rune, seeded number 8, before being stopped by the Pole Hubert Hurkacz.
