Tennis Player Casper Ruud Calls Out Miami Open Organizers for Poor Player Amenities

“In the trailer there were no towels, no cold water, just a plastic chair to change into. “This is a joke,” Casper Ruud complained while playing in the second round of the Miami Open on Saturday against Frenchman Luca van Assche. He told the chair umpire what, according to him, the wait of the tennis players is like in the moments before the matches at the Hard Rock Stadium.

“And you know why? Because the tournament is too cheap to offer anything good for the players. We come here every year to play, to put on a show in front of tens of thousands of people and then they treat us like this,” insisted the Norwegian, who was playing this Sunday against the Spanish Alejandro Davidovich.

“Go to the trailer for five minutes, in a room with nothing and just a plastic chair to change into. Maybe they could put some towels, maybe some cold water for the comfort of the players. And it’s not your fault. I’m just saying how bad it is,” Ruud added, before asking the referee to report his demands to ATP President Andrea Gaudenzi and CEO Massimo Calvelli. “I know you didn’t know, but I’m telling you now. And we have to transfer it today to whoever is in charge, Andrea, Massimo, whoever. Because every time the players complain, nothing happens.”
