Table tennis: Félix Lebrun qualified for the quarter-finals at the Singapore Smash

New high-level performance for Félix Lebrun. The French table tennis player, 17 years old and 6th player in the world, qualified for the quarter-finals of the Singapore Smash by beating the Swede Kristian Karlsson three sets to zero this Thursday: 12-10, 11-6, 11-9.

He will face Indian veteran Sharath Kamal Achanta, 42 years old and 88th player in the world, in the quarter-final this Friday (8:15 a.m. Paris time). This is the first time that Félix Lebrun has reached the quarters of this tournament, one of the main ones on the world table tennis circuit.

The young French prodigy is the only French representative still competing at the Singapore Smash after the defeats of his older brother Alexis, eliminated in the first round by Chinese world number 3 Ma Long, and Frenchwoman Prithika Pavade, exited in the round of 16 .

Earlier in the day, the two Lebrun brothers, together in doubles, were dominated in the quarter by the Swedes Mattias Falck and Anton Kallberg, in a close encounter (3-2). At the end of February, led by the Lebrun brothers, the French men’s team reached the final of the World Team Championships, for the first time since 1997, before being beaten by China.
