There is now suspicion that Porter helped ensure that the bets were successful. According to Adrian Wojnarowski (ESPN), there is a limit on player bets between $1,000 and $2,000, and a source said several people tried to bet significantly higher amounts on Porter bets. Apparently it was up to $20,000.

According to NBA statutes, both players and team employees are not permitted to place bets on the NBA. Possible penalties include fines, suspension or even termination of the contract.
