Surprises on the Diamond: Rania Braccini and Ferruccio Berti Shine at the Coppa Italia Arco Nudo

In Settimo Torinese, on the Baseball Club diamond, there was no shortage of surprises. Rania Braccini and Ferruccio Berti overtook the big favorites of the day before on the podium

When an outsider gets behind a top-level champion it can be luck. Or not. Maybe he simply prepared very well for a competition and has a light head because he doesn’t have any particular pressure given that he doesn’t start as the favourite. Of course, both situations can also happen together. And it seems that this is what happened at the Coppa Italia Arco Nudo held last weekend in Settimo Torinese, with the shooting line set up on an unusual competition field, the diamond of the Settimo Baseball Club. The competition dedicated to the archery division which uses a bow completely similar to the Olympic one, but “bare” the technology that is applied to a recurve bow (for example, sights, stabilizations and clickers are missing), saw some pleasant surprises on the top step of the podium.

amazes the young rania

The women’s challenge was won by the promising junior Rania Braccini (Arcieri Lucca) who confirmed the excellent performance achieved on Saturday, dedicated to qualifying, when she had obtained the best overall score among the women. Even on the final day, the young Tuscan athlete managed, round after round, to place herself among the best and, in the final, after the first 6 arrows, she overtook the world champion and queen of this division, Cinzia Noziglia, and then further increased the advantage by closing with the second series of 6 arrows at the top of the general ranking. Braccini wins gold with 109 points, leaving the silver to the multiple world champion Cinzia Noziglia (Fiamme Oro) who scores 102 points. Bronze for Livia Fabris (Arcieri Orione) with 100 and fourth place for Alessandra Bigogno (Arcieri Tre Torri) with 96.

inexorable Berti

If in the women’s event it was an emerging youngster who earned the top step of the podium, in the men’s event it was the immaculate Ferruccio Berti (Arcieri di Volpiano) who won the overall title with an applause-worthy performance. The Piedmontese athlete, born in 1953, put everyone behind him by closing the last 12 arrows with 107 points. This is not a bolt from the blue, given that Berti also wore the blue shirt last year during the Campagna and 3D European Championships, despite being a master athlete and, just a few days ago, he received it from World Archery the official diplomas for the 4 world records over 50 on 60 indoor arrows, achieved last winter. The archer from Turin overtook the two Italian starters on the podium at the recent field world championships in Yankton: Giuseppe Seimandi (Fiamme Azzurre) concluded with silver by scoring 104 points, while the winner of the class title and vice world field champion Eric Esposito (Arcieri di Malpaga Bartolomeo Colleoni – Bergamo) takes the bronze with 103. Fourth place, with 99 points, Davide Bertoncelli (Arcieri Re Bertoldo). For Rania and Ferruccio, without a doubt, it was a day to remember. The Azzurri left behind will be able to take revenge next year in Seravezza, in the province of Lucca, where the Italian outdoor championships will be held from 24 to 27 August. In fact, from 2023, the Coppa Italia Arco Nudo will be abolished because this division will finally make its debut at the outdoor tricolors, alongside the other two planned divisions, recurve and compound.
