The countdown to Paris 2024 is in its final stretch. And from August 28 to September 8 it will be the time of the Paralympic Games where Argentina will be represented, among other disciplines, with judo for the blind.
The coach of the national team, Guillermo Traba, explained the planning of the albiceleste team that trains at CeNARD but will soon have important international experience.
«We are training with six boys who have the possibility of being in Paris 2024. We arrived from Germany a week ago and we are working with the goal of going to a competition in Turkey, on April 1 and 2, where 5 athletes will travel. We already have three qualified for the Paralympic Games: Rocio Ledesma (Tierra del Fuego), Eduardo Gauto and Paula Gómez (Buenos Aires), all in the J1 category (total blindness) », he detailed.
Argentina will go in search of the necessary points in Europe to achieve two more places that could go to David Gómez (J1, 60 kilograms) and Nadia Boggiano (J1, up to 70 kilograms).
«We come from 2023 with good feelings. And after the break, the idea is for them to recover their best level to arrive in Paris as best as possible. “We are satisfied with the work they have been doing,” said the coach.
The Argentine blind judo team is confirmed by a group of 16 athletes who, in addition to the coach, are joined by conventional athletes Natalia Pintos, Ian Krombalew and Ema Murillo (all sighted) who collaborate in training.
“We are going to Paris with the idea of looking for medals: Gauto, Gómez and Ledesma have been adding podiums and we have very good possibilities,” the coach remarked.
