Students Showcase Strategic Abilities and Mental Skills in Chess Tournament

They demonstrated strategic abilities and mental skills

The students Julia Paola Rendón and Jesús Antonio Guízar, from Zamora and Aquila, respectively, won the first places in the state chess tournament that was held within the framework of the Basic Education School Sports Games, organized by the State Secretariat of Education (SEE) through the Directorate of Physical Education, Recreation and Sports.

In this space, the participating children demonstrated strategic abilities and mental skills, while competing in individual games and in mixed teams, including rapid chess to maintain the excitement and rhythm of the game.

The second and third places in the women’s and men’s categories were Daleiza Jasibe Córdoba, from Nueva Italia; Dulce Estrella Saavedra, from La Piedad; Jesús Antonio Guízar, from Aquila; Narvick Pureco, from Huetamo; and Rafael Sirack Castellanos, from Zamora, respectively.

With more than 140 boys and girls in the 2012 category and under, this tournament encourages both the physical and mental development of the students. Participants represent the 25 physical education sectors throughout the state, having gone through a rigorous qualifying process that includes stages at the school, zone, sector and finally the state level.

In addition to chess, the Basic Education School Sports Games have been a stage for various sports disciplines such as volleyball, athletics, basketball, handball and badminton.

Taekwondo and soccer competitions will be held soon, to expand opportunities for students to participate in activities that promote health, healthy competitiveness, and camaraderie.
