Students from Manduel College Reach French Archery Championship Quarter-Finals

It has been four years since the Arc-club Manduel, through its passionate president Lionel Allasio, established a collaboration with the team of EPS teachers from the Via Domitia college in Manduel-Redessan. Each school year, all students at the same class level can benefit from an introductory cycle of archery with high-quality equipment and supervision during certain PE lessons.

In addition to this service, there is also the possibility of participating in sporting events on the magnificent facilities dedicated to this sport in the town of Manduel. Building on this flourishing partnership, an additional milestone was reached in 2024 by offering certain seasoned and motivated students the opportunity to take part in UNSS competitions. A first experiment that was more than conclusive, since a team of archers qualified for the French championship in the Excellence category.

This competition took place in Rodez (Aveyron) in mid-March where Méryl Bussière (captain), Éloïse Lacroix, Naël Gouchène and Tom Labouriaux, these budding champions, faced the eleven other best school teams in France . After improving and beating their qualifying record, the college athletes qualified for the quarter-finals where they crossed paths with the future finalists.

Visit to the Soulages museum

After several confrontations and ranking matches they finished in a very honorable 8th place for this first major meeting of a very high level. To enhance this great competition, the organizers offered, during the recovery time, a visit to the Soulages museum and the city’s water park to recharge the young people’s batteries after all the efforts made.

Note the participation of Morgan Janson, a 6th grade student at the college, who worked effectively as a young judge throughout the competition. Once again, thanks to the UNSS the young people were able to share much more than sport and the motto of the college sports association, “Team spirit towards success and pleasure” took on its full meaning, during this great national competition. The students left with a head full of life memories and other projects to come.
