The spectators in Miami were treated to an exciting third round game between the world number 25. Jan-Lennard Struff and the Australian Alex de Minaur are expected, after all both players secured two wins each in the previous encounters. The last two games that took place at Masters level went to the Warsteiner.
And so the first round should be completely open. Struff repeatedly threw in net attacks, while de Minaur repeatedly used counterattacks with his quick legs. After the German Davis Cup player missed the first break chance and the 25-year-old de Minaur missed two opportunities, it went to a tiebreak. After an even start, de Minaur, seeded at No. 9, went one step further when the score was 3:3 and won the first round with four consecutive point wins.
After an even start in the second act, de Minaur earned the first break chance in the fifth game and grabbed it consistently. When the Australian had three running chances for the double break at 4:2, Struff managed to win the game with an ace on his debut. Nevertheless, de Minaur held his own on his own serve and secured the 7:6 (3), 6:4 success after 1:51 hours with a serve winner.
Marozsan beats Popyrin
In the round of 16, No. 9 seed de Minaur will face Hungarian Fabian Marozsan, who, after his surprisingly smooth win against Holger Rune, defeated Australian Alexei Popyrin 7:5, 6:3.
